The Aurora Girls Basketball team pulled off the seemingly impossible Thursday night. They walked into Lion's Den and they faced a Giant in undefeated Wadsworth at home and slay Goliath. In a closely called game Aurora and Wadsworth would battle back and forth all game long as there were several lead changes and drama all the way down to the last possession. Wadsworth led by Senior Kaci Davis 16 pts didn't just lay down. In fact the Grizzlies did just the opposite. They scratched and clawed their way through most of the game, and even threated to run away with game at one point after star Sophmore Shyanne Sellers went down late in the 4th quarter. But is was then that the Greenmen found out what they were made of. With Sellers going down with a cramp, the team had to rely on it's bench and a little help from Shyanne's older sister Shayla who finished with 11 pts, and the biggest play of the game when she stole the ball from Wadsworth and was fouled near her bucket with .05 secs left. Sellers then drained the two free throws and the rest is history. When asked about the teams performance when Shyanne went down, Shayla responded:

"It kinda gave us a new chance to to see if someone else would shine...so it kinda boosted our confidence to do our best"

Coach Erika Greenberg had nothing but praise for her teams performance although she said that they didn't play their best game

"I want them to know that they can do it too, she (Shyanne) struggled really all night and we were able to hang...In order to hang with the Big Dawgs you gotta Play with the Big Dawgs..."

And do their best they did as they Shalya hit a huge three to pull the lead within 1. From there Shyanne had decided she had seen enough from the sidelines and after stretching a bit returned to the game: Despite struggling throughout the game Shyanne and the defense keying on her by doubling her, she still finished with 13 pts and was able to help her team by finding her teammates with some beautiful passes to set up shots late in the game.

"Yea it just wasn't my night, and their a really god defensive team.. I can do other things than just score...I know my teammates can score, so long as their running and getting open, there's other things I can do than just score"

The Greenmen roll on to 11-1 on the season, and they just really found out what their made of. Watch out this team could be dangerous. Stay tuned.
